Can Professors Sue Quizlet or Chegg or Course Hero for Copying Exam Questions?)

This paper was presented at the 2022 annual meeting of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business.

Abstract

In an attempt to teach intellectual property law, a college professor creates and secures the intellectual property rights to his very own superhero—Copyright Infringement Man.

This article demonstrates how to publish print, electronic, and audio books, and how to register to protect one’s intellectual property rights with the U.S. Copyright Office. Along the way we will explore if Quizlet and Chegg violate copyright law when they reveal professors’ exam questions without permission, and suggest a solution.
